A Virgo native born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, Anna Deavere Smith has made a name for herself as an actress and playwright. After making a series of guest appearances on popular television shows, Smith landed a recurring role on NBC's The West Wing. She later became a regular cast member on Nurse Jackie, and her one-woman play Fires in the Mirror was even nominated for the 1993 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
